Antarctic krill is the most abundant organism and a pivotal species in the food web in the Southern Ocean. Follow a team of scientists from IMR on board a fishing vessel while conducting critical research to manage this key species.

A crucial step for estimating krill abundance is to calibrate the acoustic sensors. Follow the IMR team as they execute a sphere calibration onboard the FV "Saga Sea" down in the South Orkney Islands.

Is it krill or fish? Which size? The only way to determine species composition and the size of krill measured by the acoustic instruments is by collecting an actual sample. Follow a team of scientists from IMR as they set and collect zooplankton samples using a travel net. Measuring several hundreds of individual krill is the only way to determine their size and gender around the South Orkney Islands.
